Larry Groteluschen, 79, of Monroe, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019, at Columbus Community Hospital.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at First United Methodist Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Cindi Stewart officiating. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 4, at Gass Haney Funeral Home, and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church, with a 10:15 a.m. family prayer service.
Larry was born May 23, 1939, in Genoa, to Walter and Loretta (Leffelbein) Groteluschen. At a young age, the family moved to a farm near Monroe, where Larry lived all his life. He attended a rural elementary school, and graduated from Monroe High School in 1956. On Oct. 15, 1956, Larry entered the U.S. Army, and served until he was honorably discharged on Oct. 2, 1959. He returned to Monroe and was united in marriage to Phyllis Boydston on Aug. 16, 1964, in Plainview. Larry farmed all his life in Monroe, and also worked at Behlens and Camaco in Columbus. He enjoyed having coffee with his friends and being with people.
Larry is survived by wife, Phyllis Groteluschen of Monroe; daughter, Shirley (Kevin) Kathka of Omaha; grandchildren, Christopher and Kimberly Kathka; brother, Wayne (Madeline) Groteluschen of Stewartville, Minnesota; sister, Phyllis Witte of Syracuse.
Larry was preceded in death by parents, Walter and Loretta Groteluschen; and sister, Bonita Boysen.
