CRESTON — Larry "Sliver" Osten, 78, of Creston, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at his home near Creston.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 12.5 miles north of Columbus, with the Rev. Brad Birtell officiating. Interment will be in Creston Fairview Cemetery, with military honors. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Gass Haney Funeral Home and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Memorials may be directed to Creston Rescue Squad or the family's choice.
Larry was born April 12, 1939, in Columbus to Arthur and Alma (Leffers) Osten. He attended St. John’s Lutheran School and graduated in 1957 from Creston High School, where he was in the top six in his class. He entered the U.S. Army on Jan. 26, 1960, and served until he was honorably discharged on April 25, 1962. He returned to the Creston area and on Aug. 18, 1963, was united in marriage to Margaret Granier in Morgan City, Louisiana. They lived in the Creston area all their lives where Larry farmed and later worked at Behlen Manufacturing. He was a member of Creston American Legion Post 306.
Larry is survived by his wife Margaret Osten of Creston, son Samuel (Kathy) Osten of Pittsburgh, daughter Vicki Osten of Seattle and grandchildren Natalie, Jeremy and Matthew.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Alma Osten, sister Twila (Harold) Larson and infant brother Dale Vernon Osten.
