COLUMBUS — LaVonne D. Stone, 84, of Columbus, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at Brookestone Acres in Columbus.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Timothy White officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. A family prayer service will be held 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Roselawn Cemetery in Columbus. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the family's choice.

LaVonne Dorothy Stone was born on Feb. 11, 1933, to Jack and Goldie (Petersen) Eilers on the family farm near Madison. She attended school in Madison and graduated from Madison High School in 1949 at the age of 16. LaVonne was married to Russell Ellison from 1952 to 1967, and to this union two children were born. The family lived in Lincoln for a number of years where LaVonne worked in quality control for a manufacturer of Elgin watches. The family moved to Octavia where LaVonne went to work at Becton Dickinson in Columbus, and then moved to Columbus, where she worked in the print shop at Behlen Manufacturing for 20 years. LaVonne was married to Donald Stone from 1968 until his death in 1988. After she retired in 1995, LaVonne served as the secretary for the Behlen Retirees Association for 13 years. LaVonne was married to Norman Thompson from 1996 until his death in 2002.

LaVonne was a talented seamstress and quilter. She enjoyed oil painting, fishing, gardening and traveling on Norm’s Harley. She was a part of the Harley Owners Group (HOG) for about 10 years. LaVonne’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

LaVonne is survived by her daughter Mary K. (Rick) Hasselbalch of Columbus; son Jim (Lori) Ellison of Columbus; grandchildren Ryan Bakersfield of Lincoln, Andrea Bakersfield of Columbus, Calen (Amanda) Staub of Columbus and Crystle (Doug) Cooney of Columbus; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister Patricia (Gus) Strauss of Lincoln; sisters-in-law Donna Eilers of Fremont and Betty Eilers of Grand Island; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Goldie Eilers; husband Russell Ellison; husband Donald Stone; husband Norman Thompson; brothers Vernon, Roger and Robert Eilers; and sister Sharon Eilers.
