Leander A. Stachura, 84, of Lincoln, passed away on Feb. 28, 2018. Born in Rural Duncan to Joseph and Mary (Startz) Stachura. Leander graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus in 1953. He then joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Coral Sea. He was honorably discharged in 1957. Leander Married Helen Sokol on August 20, 1960 in Platte Center.
Leander graduated from Kearney State College with a M.A. in 1961, MS 1962. He was an industrial arts instructor with Lincoln Public Schools for 32 years, teaching at Whittier Jr. High School and Lincoln High School. Leander was Nebraska Industrial Arts Teacher of the Year in 1990. He was a member of St Patrick’s Church, member of the American Legion Post 3 for over 50 years and Voiture 103, 40 & 8.
Leander is survived by wife, Helen of 57 years; children; Michael (Gail) Stachura, Lincoln; daughter Cynthia Morand, Lincoln; son Charles (Kelly) Stachura, Raymond; grandchildren Ryan and Jamie Morand, Lincoln; Max and Zoie Stachura of Raymond; step granddaughters Amy (Jason) Jazwick, Lincoln; Shelly Moore, Columbus; six step great grandchildren; brother Vigil (Vickie) Stachura, Bloomington, Minn; sister Eileen Diers, Syracuse; brother and sister-in-law Ed & Annette Sokol, State College, Penn.; brother and sister-in-law Allan & Mary Brock, Hickman; sister-in-law Kathy Liss, Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by parents, brother, Daniel Stachura; brother-in law, Joe Liss; and son-in-law, Bob Morand. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2018 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 6120 Morrill Ave Lincoln, NE; visitation will be also held at the Church from 5-7pm on Sunday March 4, 2018.
