Leon Williams, 100, of Columbus, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019, at Meridian Gardens in Columbus.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with The Rev. Jim Heithoff officiating. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. vigil service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues on Thursday from 8:30-10 a.m. at McKown Funeral Home. Interment is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery with Military Honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard.
Francis Leon Williams was born April 1, 1919, in Arapahoe, Nebraska, to Maurice and Mary (Carrico) Williams. He was raised and received his education in Grand Island. In 1941, Leon entered the U.S. Army, where he attained the rank of sergeant in the medical corp during World War II. Following his time in the service, Leon attended Marquette University. He married Cecilia Ritter on Dec. 31, 1956, in Parkston, South Dakota. Leon owned and operated the Williams Brothers and Fashion Fab for over 30 years. He retired in 1985.
Leon was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, the VFW, and the American Legion. He enjoyed playing golf, gardening, being a businessman but the true love of his life was his wife, Cecilia.
Leon is survived by his wife, Cecilia Williams of Columbus; son Dennis (Connie) Ritter of Columbus; daughter Ann (Larry) Reynek of Omaha; sons Tom (Tami) Williams of Columbus and Tim (Kathy) Williams of Doniphan; sister Cecelia Feehan of Columbus; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Mary Williams; brothers Paul and John Williams; and sister Patricia Braxmeyer.
