Louis Thies, 73, of Albion, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019, at his home.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29, at the VFW building in Albion, 127 S 3rd Street.

Louis was born on Nov. 19, 1945, in Beatrice, to Paul and Dorothy (Kuntz) Thies. The family moved to Columbus in 1951, and then to Albion on his birthday in 1961. He enlisted in the Navy Construction Battalion in 1964, and did two tours of duty until honorably discharged as an E5 in 1967. Upon his return, he married Linda Hulse on Oct. 28, 1967. They made their home in Albion and raised four children: Lisa, Aaron, Michael and Joseph.

Louis was an electrician, carpenter and plumber for many years in the Albion area. After high school, he worked as an electrician with his father. After his parents acquired The Shopper, he worked as a pressman and then as the General Manager of the Cabinet Warehouse, also owned by his parents. He was the owner-operator of the businesses L&L Construction and then Thies Electric, all in Albion. In his free time he enjoyed woodworking, helping his kids with projects, spending time with his grandkids, talking with his friends at Bob's Barber Shop and watching NASCAR races.

Louis is survived by his wife, Linda Thies of Albion; four children: Lisa (Dave) Osborne of O'Neill, Aaron (Megan) Thies of Kearney, Michael (Melissa Riecks) of Genoa, and Joseph (Ashley) Thies of Genoa; nine grandchildren; brother, Pete (Myrna) Thies of Pennsylvania; twin sister, Louise (Larry) Weyer of Lincoln; and sister, Paula (Jim) Daugherty of Kansas; numerous nieces and nephews; and his four legged buddy, Otis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Dorothy Thies; and grandson, Daxton J. Thies.
