Lyle Muth, 73, of Lincoln, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, at Bryan Medical Center East Campus in Lincoln.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 14 miles north of Columbus, with the Rev. Clint Poppe and the Rev. Adam Moline officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, with military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, at Gass Haney Funeral Home, and continue from 1 p.m. until service time on Friday at the church. Memorials may be directed to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Lyle Leroy Muth was born on April 25, 1945, to Howard and Ethel (Janssen) Muth in Columbus. He was baptized on May 20, 1945, and confirmed his Christian faith on March 22, 1959, at St. John's Lutheran Church. He attended St. John's Lutheran grade school and graduated from Columbus High School in 1963. Lyle entered the United States Navy on Feb. 26, 1964, and served during the Vietnam War on the USS Independence as a jet mechanic. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 18, 1967. After leaving the Navy, Lyle attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Lyle was united in marriage to Norma Klink on Aug. 2, 1969, at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Columbus. Among the places that Lyle worked were Boeing Manufacturing, Texaco, Thrivent Financial, Cushman Manufacturing, and the Foundation for Educational Services. Lyle had a great love for fishing, nature, and wildlife, and was always eager to share his passion with his family and friends.
Lyle is survived by wife, Norma Muth of Lincoln; daughter, Kim (Lance) von Rentzell of Lincoln; son, Jared (Lori) Muth of Crete; daughter, Michele Logan of Scottsdale, Arizona; daughter, Melissa (Chris) Peters of Lincoln; five grandchildren; brother, Dennis (Dee) Muth of Omaha; sister, Lonna (Bob) Osten of Omaha.
