Myrl "Bud" Rhea, 85, of Columbus, died Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at his home in Columbus.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, at Gass Haney Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Purple Cane Cemetery near Rogers. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, July 12, and will continue from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday, all at the funeral home.

Myrl “Bud” Rhea was born on April 7, 1934, in Schuyler, to Agnes (Kasal) Rhea. Bud's father passed away shortly before he was born. His family lived near Rogers for a few years until moving to David City, where Bud attended school. On Aug. 13, 1960, Bud was united in marriage to Betty Cemper at St. Mary's Church in David City. The couple lived in David City for a few years before moving to Columbus, where they made their home for over 50 years. Through the years, Bud worked at Loup Engineering, Sears, was a salesman at Cook's Paints, managed Platte Valley Sales & Service, and for the last 18 years worked at the Vacuum Center. Bud enjoyed many outdoor activities, including gardening, camping, hunting, fishing, and he also liked going bowling. Bud especially loved attending his grandchildren's' and great-grandchildren's' activities and sporting events.

Bud is survived by wife, Betty Rhea of Columbus; son, Bryan (Kathy) Rhea of Columbus; grandchildren: Heather, Caleb (Marie) and Sierra; great-grandchildren: Nolan, Bjorn, Leo, Gabe and Nico; son, Daniel Rhea of Columbus; grandchildren: Rob (Ashley), Samantha (AJ), Paul; great-grandchildren: Jayvyn, Laken, McKenzie, Emma; daughter, Lisa (Richard) Weyers of Duncan; grandchildren: Emily, Kaci (Drew), Harrison and Jacob; great-grandchildren: Gavyn, Kade, Hayden, Rosie, Kyli, Hope, Cooper and Andi; sister, Beryl Vachal of Omaha; sister, Janice (Chris) Ladewski of La Porte, Indiana; brother-in-law, Gene (Sonny) Cemper of Bethlehem, Georgia; brother-in-law, Larry (Laurie) Cemper of Columbus; brother-in-law, Victor (Janice) Cemper of David City; sister-in-law, Debbie Schmid of Duncan; sister-in-law, Sharon Cemper of Grand Island; many nieces and nephews.

Bud was preceded in death by parents, Myrl and Agnes Rhea; stepfather, Milo Hasik; brother-in-law, Jim Cemper.
