Norbert Theilen, 95, of Columbus, died Sunday, August 4, 2019, at Brookestone Acres in Columbus.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 14 miles North, with the Rev. Brad Birtell officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Gass Haney Funeral Home, and will continue from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the church. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church or School, or the family's choice.

Norbert was born on July 7, 1924, in Creston, to George and Eugenie (Hellbusch) Theilen. He was baptized, confirmed, and a member at St. John's Lutheran Church. Norbert was united in marriage to Fern Ruby Engelbart on April 24, 1946. Norbert and Fern lived on a farm south of Creston until the early 1980's when they moved to Columbus.

Norbert loved his wife of 73 years, kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He also enjoyed farming, woodworking, and doing home improvements for others, and had his own business called Theilen Construction.

Norbert is survived by wife, Fern Theilen of Columbus; daughter, Phyllis (Cliff) Kapels of Humphrey; son, Glenn (Sharon) Theilen of Creston; son, Rodney (Randee) Theilen of Creston; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Loretta Sander of Redlands, California; brother-in-law, Dennis Zoubek of Leigh; sister-in-law, Loretta Engelbart of Leigh.

Norbert was preceded in death by parents, George and Eugenie Theilen; Fern's parents, Reinhold and Martha Engelbart; great-granddaughter, Lynsey Kapels; brother, Albert (Lucy) Theilen; brother, Paul (Ilene) Theilen; brother, Reinhardt (Marcella) Theilen; brother, Harold Theilen; brother-in-law, Carrol Sander; brother-in-law, Robert Engelbart; sister-in-law, Irene (Don) Hansen; sister-in-law, Luella Zoubek.
