Dick Temme

COLUMBUS — Richard A. Temme, 77, of Columbus, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, at Brookestone Acres in Columbus.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at Federated Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Dr. Annika Lister Stroope and the Rev. Dr. Edward Yang officiating. Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne at a later date. There will be no visitation.

Richard “Dick” August Temme was born Feb. 13, 1940, on the farm near Wayne to Henry and Anna (Vahlkamp) Temme. He was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Wayne, graduated from Wayne High School in 1957 and from Wayne State College in 1962 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He attended Eastern Illinois University for one year and earned his Master of Natural Science degree from Oklahoma University in 1966. Dick taught school in Bloomfield for one year, Central City for two years, York for three years and at Lincoln Northeast for nine years. He then went to work for TMCO (Total Manufacturing Company) of Lincoln. Dick was united in marriage to Judy Owens on Dec. 19, 1992, and moved to Columbus. He joined the Federated Church and served on several committees and enjoyed singing in the church choir. Dick served six years on the board for ESU 7 and worked on the board for Friends of Music.

Dick enjoyed many things: backpacking, fishing, traveling, bowling, playing tennis (including coaching a York team to state), golfing, watching Husker football and basketball, and visiting with friends and family while sharing a cup of coffee.

Dick is survived by his wife Judy Temme of Columbus; brother Frederick (Joann) Temme of Wayne; brother Roland (Hiroko) Temme of Lincoln; sister Esther (Harvey) Brader of Wayne; sister Alma Temme of Norfolk; sister Caroline Caauwe of Lincoln; sister Gladys Juhlin of Battle Creek; sister Wilma (Willard) Bartels of Wakefield; sister-in-law Marilyn Simmons of Torrington, Wyoming; sister-in-law Ruth (Walter) Ludwig of Chattanooga, Tennessee; brother-in-law Milton (Jackie) Owens of Carroll; and several nieces and nephews.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Anna Temme; infant brother Victor Temme; sister Marcella Temme; sister Dorothea Grosse; brother-in-law Harvey Grosse; brother-in-law Russ Juhlian; brother-in-law Don Caauwe; brother-in-law Harold Ekberg; and brother-in-law Robert Simmons.
