Richard "Rich" Sliva, 85, died Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at his home in Columbus.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 1, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus. Military honors will be conducted by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, with a 6 p.m. vigil service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 9-10:30 a.m. Monday morning, also at the funeral home.
Richard Sliva was born Jan.13, 1934, in Columbus, to Joseph and Mary (Yelly) Sliva. He grew up in Columbus and attended St. Bonaventure High School. Rich served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from March 4, 1952–Feb.18, 1955.On Jan. 18, 1957, he was united in marriage to Margaret Konert in Yakima, Washington. Rich worked for Union Pacific, Lyman Richie and the City of Columbus, including the water department, street department and the city landfill. He then worked for the Village of Platte Center for five years before returning to work for the City of Columbus. Rich also owned and operated his own salvage business for many years. He was a member of St. Anthony Church, and a lifetime member of the V.F.W.
He is survived by son, Rick (Kathy) Sliva of Ashland; son, Bob (Diane) Sliva of Columbus; daughter, Marge (Mike) Jorgensen of David City; son, Chuck (Kathy) Sliva of Columbus; son, David (Amy) Sliva of Columbus; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Minnie Kula of Genoa; brother, Virgil (Lorraine) Sliva of Columbus; sister, Helen O'Brien of Grand Junction, Colorado; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Mary Sliva; wife, Margaret Sliva; sisters, Jean Stachura, Katherine Tomich and infant sister Anna Mae Sliva; brothers, Donnie and Leonard Sliva Grandson, Conner Sliva.
