Willis “Willie” Chesnut, 85, of Columbus died Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Columbus Community Hospital.
At his wishes, his remains were donated to the University of Nebraska Medical Center with no memorial service.

He was the youngest child of Guy and Pearl Chesnut of Franklin, Nebraska, and was preceded in death by his parents; brother; six sisters; and his son-in-law, John Keefe.
Willie was retired from a 38-year career at General Telephone Electric. He started his career in Franklin, Nebraska, moving to Kearney, Nebraska, and then to Columbus in 1966. Willie was a lifelong enthusiast of the outdoors, including camping with his family, fishing and hunting along with serving as member of an injured raptor rescue team with his wife, Irene for 18 years.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Irene (Bristol); and his four children; Jane Chesnut of Lincoln, JoAnn Keefe of Olympia, Washington; Patrick (Jill) Chesnut of Chantilly, Virginia and Peggy Chesnut-Via (Michael) of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; as well as five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
