Greetings from Memphis, Tennessee!
You may be wondering, "why Memphis?" Well, a board member and I are attending the Keep America Beautiful national conference. This is an opportunity to learn about other affiliate's' projects, better recycling practices, the state of recycling, volunteer recruitment, and overall training to better our organization.

It has been a very educational week. I have learned a lot and so has board member Natasha. If you read the paper earlier this week, we at KCB received funding from the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy to start a recycling program with another employee to join us soon. This will be the first time we have done anything like this so it was perfect timing to come and learn what other communities are doing and what worked and what didn't work.
During our downtime, we had the opportunity to enjoy Memphis. This city has so much history and soul. We were both very grateful for the opportunity to come learn and enjoy all the national conference has to offer. Keep Columbus Beautiful was also the recipient of the President's Circle Award. This award recognizes affiliates that achieve excellent standards for the requirements to be a Keep America Beautiful Affiliate.
We have been fortunate to be an annual recipient of this award since before I started in 2010. I've got to get back to our training sessions, but I look forward to an eventful 2020 for Keep Columbus Beautiful.
