COLUMBUS-- Valentine’s Day brought a gift of blue skies and warm weather to eastern Nebraska.
Temperatures rose to the mid-40s, leaving many roads a slushy mess as people still ventured to Lake North to enjoy the spring-like weather.
Ice anglers packed their truck with gear and made their way to the center of Lake North to test their luck. Others enjoyed a small picnic near the shore.
Mark and Sandy Swope enjoyed an afternoon along the inner banks with their dog, Jasper.
Temperatures hadn’t climbed much since hitting 45 degrees on Feb. 4. The warmer temperatures were expected to continue Thursday, but with north-northwest winds kicking up past 20 mph. Above freezing temperatures were expected through Sunday, when they will dip below 32 degrees again next week.
