When a woman has a baby, it changes her body in ways she may never have imagined. From sagging breasts to tummy weight that just won’t go away, some problems cannot be fixed with diet and exercise alone.
Every woman wants to feel good about herself and confident in her body, which is why plastic surgeons find such joy in helping women achieve that goal.
Surgery: Before, during and after
The term “mommy makeover,” describes various procedures women in their late 20s to age 50 or 60 desire to improve their physical attributes. These procedures typically include breast implants, a breast lift or a combination of those two procedures to address the shrinking or sagging of the breasts. Tummy tucks are also frequently performed to tighten belly muscle and tissue. When patients come with these issues, these procedures are often performed in combination. Patients come, they get the surgery, and once they recover, they feel like a completely new person.
Each of these two surgeries takes approximately two hours, but most patients go home that same day if they are able to get up and move around. Patients can return to work within a week to ten days, so long as they are not lifting anything heavy. For a full recovery, where women can lift anything they want and exercise as much as they want, it will take three to four weeks. Follow-up appointments depend on the surgery performed, but the preferred follow-up schedule is one week, one month and three months post-procedure.
Ideal mommy makeover candidates
An ideal candidate is someone who leads a normally healthy lifestyle, does not have any major existing medical conditions and does not smoke.
Before the procedure, all patients meet with me for a comprehensive consultation, which lasts upwards of 60-90 minutes. During this time, the surgery is explained in detail, photos are taken, and patients are advised of potential risks and complications of the procedure. At this appointment, there is also a detailed discussion of what women should expect in the postoperative period, the recovery phase and even what they should expect to see long-term. It’s really a two-way conversation where patients tell me their needs and I tell patients how we can work together toward those goals.
Financial considerations are also discussed at the consultation, so patients fully know what to expect in terms of the cost of the procedures.
Patient satisfaction is the top priority
Patients are encouraged to get a lot of information before they get plastic surgery, so that they are able to make a very informed decision. Plastic surgery clients should feel well-informed about their plastic surgery, before, during and after the process.
In addition to undergoing the consultation with me, people interested in plastic surgery can also talk to others who have had these procedures themselves. Some patients are extremely willing to discuss and communicate with new clients about their experiences.
Most patients are extremely happy and satisfied with their results.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to feel confident in your body. This is one route to get there.
