LHS singers on All-State Chorus

COLUMBUS -- Each year, more than 3,000 of the best high school musicians in the state audition for the Nebraska All-State Band, Chorus, Jazz Band and Orchestra, which are sponsored by the Nebraska Music Educators Association.
The Lakeview vocal department announced that seniors Brian Crabtree Amanda Humlicek and Stephany Lopez were selected among 440 students from across the state of Nebraska to be a part of the 2014 All-State Chorus.
Crabtree, the son of Bruce and Betsy Crabtree of Creston, was selected to sing bass, Humlicek, the daughter of Dan and Lori Humlicek of Columbus, was selected to sing alto, and Lopez, the daughter of Fernando and Victoria Lopez of Columbus, was selected to sing soprano.
Guest conductor for the group will be Craig Jessop, dean of the Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University and also music director of the American Festival Chorus and Orchestra.
The chorus rehearsals will be held Nov. 19-21 on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus. A final public concert will be held Nov. 21 at the Lied Center for the Performing Arts.

COLUMBUS -- Nine individuals have been selected as Student Ambassadors at Central Community College-Columbus.
This year’s Student Ambassadors include the following students from local communities: Clarkson - Betsy Paprocki, a nursing major, is a 2013 graduate of Clarkson High School and is the daughter of Mark and Judy Paprocki. Columbus - Dalila Medroza, a political science major, is a 2013 graduate of Culver City High School in California and is the daughter of Otilia Medrano. Genoa - Bryant Kelly, an elementary education major, is a 2012 graduate of Twin River High School and is the son of Greg and Amy Kelly. Schuyler - Vanelly Mendoza, a dentistry major, is a 2013 graduate of Schuyler Central High School and is the daughter of Rasael and Laura Fernandez.
The ambassadors provide services such as giving tours to prospective students and school groups, helping students find advisor and faculty offices, helping with New Student Orientation, preparing tour folders, and performing other office tasks.
Zaruba honored for academics
COLUMBUS – Drew Zaruba, son of Dr. Dale and Jill Zaruba and brother of two sisters, has been selected as the Lions Club eighth grade student of the month for Scotus Central Catholic.
Zaruba is a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church and serves at Mass regularly. He is part of the junior high cross country, basketball and track teams and is a member of drumline and band.
He is a straight A honor roll student, 4H member, and was selected in the Duke University TIP talent search.
