By the time you (hopefully) read this, the new Schuyler Public Library will (hopefully) be open to the public. It has been a long time since Your Library was open to you, but I have to think the wait will be worth it. We still have a few bugs to work out, but things should be ready for the public to enjoy our beautiful new facility.
We are planning week-long grand opening activities beginning Monday, April 16, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony tentatively set for 6 p.m. On Tuesday, April 17, there will be a Volunteer Appreciation event. On Wednesday, April 18, we will host a story time in our brand new children’s room. At 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, we will host a Meet the Artists event at 6 p.m. Come meet local artists and view their work scattered throughout the library. On Friday, April 20, Game Day returns to Your Library at 3 p.m. Details on a brand new event, Fireplace Fridays, are being finalized, so call or stop in for details. On Saturday, April 21, there will be a flag-raising ceremony at 10 a.m. and a story time at 11.
But before our grand opening week, don’t forget that the annual Dancing Like the Stars is set for Saturday, April 14, at Oak Ballroom. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the dance contest begins at 7. At 9, dance the night away to music provided by Schuyler native Curtis Neesen.
Two awards will be presented: The People’s Choice Award, and the Judges’ Choice Award. The People’s Choice Award is presented to the couple receiving the most votes. Votes are $1 each, and there is no limit. Admission is $10 for adults while children 12 years and younger are free.
I hope to see you all soon. Stop in and take a tour of the beautiful new Schuyler Public Library.
