COLUMBUS — Second-ranked Central Community College picked up a four-set victory over Southeast Community College on Wednesday to keep its perfect record intact.
The Raiders (12-0) took the home match 25-15, 22-25, 25-8, 25-14 for their first conference win of the season.
“It’s always good to get a region and conference win,” Central head volleyball coach Mary Young said. “Our effort and execution in Set 2 was disappointing, but credit to Southeast as they passed and played good defense all night.”
Amber Anderson’s 17 kills and .444 hitting percentage paced the Raiders on offense while Chainey Tompkin’s solo block and three assisted blocks led the team on defense.
“We finally were able to get our block working in Set 3 and it really slowed them down physically and emotionally,” Young said.
Anderson’s offensive output was her second-highest kill total this season. Maeghan Pieper and Tompkin added 10 kills apiece, and Paxton Throne dished out 46 assists for Central.
The Raiders play Friday and Saturday at the loaded Kirkwood Invitational in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
CCC faces top-ranked Parkland College and No. 9 McHenry County College at 4 and 8 p.m. Friday. The Raiders continue play Saturday with 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. matches against No. 12 Illinois Central College and No. 6 Sauk Valley Community College.
