BEATRICE — Central Community College is still adjusting to a rash of injuries in the past week, but the No. 5 Raiders (22-5) were able to sweep Southeast Community College 25-11, 25-23, 25-20 on Wednesday.
Central’s two middle blockers, Chainey Tompkin and Morgan Iverson, led the way offensively and defensively. Tompkin finished with 11 kills and four blocks and Iverson, a Lakeview graduate, added nine kills and four blocks.
“I thought both of our middles were key on offense and got Southeast out of system,” Central head coach Mary Young said. “Defensively, they blocked well and it set the tone for us to be successful.”
Injuries last week to sophomores Jessica Eurek, Maeghan Pieper and Paxton Throne forced others to step up. Iverson has seen her role expand and so has setter Maddie Davis, who had 39 assists against Southeast.
“Maddie Davis has been fearless in stepping into the setting role and has distributed the ball well,” Young said.
Jacie Laetsch recorded a double-double for the Raiders with 11 kills and 10 digs. Amber Anderson finished a kill short of a double-double, notching a team-high 15 digs to go with nine kills.
The Raiders host the Ramada Classic on Friday and Saturday at Raider Fieldhouse. Central plays Williston State College and Kansas City Kansas Community College on Friday.
