DAVID CITY -- The fifth-seeded Shelby-Rising City girls clamped down on defense over the final three quarters on Monday to beat fourth-seeded Nebraska Christian 41-36 in the C2-7 subdistrict tournament.
The Huskies (9-13) allowed 18 points in the first quarter, but still managed to lead 19-18. S-RC only gave up 18 points the rest of the game, holding off a late charge by the Eagles (9-15). The Huskies didn’t allow a point in the second quarter, extending their lead to 25-18. It was 32-24 after the third quarter.
Telegram Super Senior Sydnie Adams led S-RC with 14 points and Emily Neujahr added 13.
The Huskies continue play in the subdistrict tourney this week.
High Plains 40,
UTICA -- The High Plains girls beat Palmer 40-35 on Monday in the opening game of the D1-7 subdistrict tournament at Centennial High School in Utica.
The Storm (7-14) outscored the Tigers 13-8 in the final eight minutes and that proved to be the difference in the game.
Madie Young and Brooke Bannister scored eight points each for High Plains and Emily Mcnaught and Brianna Wilshusen added seven points apiece.
Both teams got off to poor starts as High Plains scored just four points in the opening quarter, but that was enough for a lead as the Storm held Palmer (4-16) scoreless in the period.
The Tigers came back in the second quarter to take a 17-16 lead at halftime. The teams were knotted at 27-all going into the fourth period.
High Plains continues play in the tournament this week.
OAKLAND -- The Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family had no answer for Oakland-Craig’s offense on Monday, falling 73-55.
It’s the most points the Bulldogs (12-10) have surrendered in a game this season.
The Knights (15-9) led 20-15 after the first quarter and 38-26 at half. Another 20 points in the third quarter for O-C made it 58-39 going to the final period.
Garrett Seagren led the Knights with 19 points and 10 assists. Ashton Dohmen had 14 points to lead H/LHF and Turner Beller added 11 points.
The Bulldogs play at Plainview on Friday .
