Area Volleyball: BC snaps skid, Flyers fall to Patriots


Boone Central snapped a losing skid while Clarkson/Leigh took down D-2 No. 4 Humphrey St. Francis in area volleyball action on Thursday night. The Cardinals improved to 6-17 and won for the first time since Sept. 28.

St. Francis lost four just the fourth time this year and dropped to 12-4.

Boone Central/Newman Grove def. West Holt, 25-22, 25-6, 25-21: The Cardinals ended a five-match losing streak behind 15 kills from Caitlin Nelson and 13 by Mara Ranslem. Claire Weidner served up four aces and Marysa Duerksen led the back row with 14 digs.

Clarkson/Leigh def. Humphrey St. Francis, 25-23, 20-25, 25-21, 19-25, 15-10: After alternating the first four sets, Clarkson/Leigh won the race to 15 in the fifth by taking an early lead and siding out St. Francis on nearly every opportunity. Both teams had three players reach double-digit kills led by St. Francis' Kylee Wessel and Clarkson/Leigh's Cassidy Hoffman tying for the match high with 17.

Cross County def. Dorchester, 25-13, 25-23: Erica Stratman led the Cougar attack with nine kills, Amanda Giannou totaled 25 assists and also led in digs with 10.

Cross County Def. EMF, 25-19. 26-28, 25-17: Cortlyn Schaefer had nine kills, Giannou 27 assits and Katie Kopetzky led four Cougars in double digit digs with 17.

Nebraska Christian def. Osceola, 25-5, 25-15

Osceola def. St. Edward, 25-13, 25-10

Fairbury def. David City, 25-21, 25-23

Sutton def. David City, 23-25, 25-17, 25-13

Wahoo Neumann def. Aquinas, 25-11, 25-22

Nebraska Christian def. St. Edward, 25-4, 25-8
