The beat continued for Columbus High boys soccer and leading scorer Ivan Lopez on Tuesday in a 5-0 win over GNAC foe Hastings.
Lopez scored a natural hat trick on the first three goals of the game as the Discoverers turned a 2-0 halftime lead into a sixth straight win.
Lopez now has 17 goals on the season and got his third hat trick following six goals in a GNAC Tournament game against the same Hastings team in a 7-0 GNAC Tournament win on April 6 and four in win over Lutheran Northeast/Norfolk Catholic on April 2.
Other Columbus goals included Talon Strong scoring his first of the year and Avery McMeekin putting his second of the season in the back of the net. Columbus, which came into the game No. 5 in the latest Lincoln Journal Star Class B rankings, hasn't lost since a 3-0 defeat to Lincoln Southwest on March 28.
"(Hastings) played a different style today. They put nine guys in the box and just played defense. It took us quite a while to get organized, and we just couldn't get them to come out of that," coach John Arlt said. "Once we scored the first one, and Ivan's second goal was a really, really nice one, we just controlled the game the whole way through."
Lopez tied the school record for goals in a single match the first time the two teams met. Although it took some probing and prodding to find the chances on Tuesday, Arlt was impressed with the way his team came out in a workman-like showing against a team it had already defeated.
Columbus is now 8-1.
"The only concern I have coming out of it is, they allowed us to do a lot of things in terms of keeping possession and they weren't pressuring us," he said. "From here on out, the remaining opponents won't be that way."
