BRAINARD — David City swept Thursday’s wrestling triangular with East Butler and David City Aquinas.
The Class C, No. 2 Scouts took advantage of seven forfeits against East Butler, meaning the Tigers entered the dual needing seven wins by fall just to tie. That didn’t happen as the Scouts won 11 of the 13 matches overall in a 63-9 victory.
David City followed that up with a 49-26 win over its crosstown rival.
The Scouts’ Justin White opened the East Butler dual with a 6-2 win over Ryley Spatz at 138 pounds. Dalton Bohac gave the Tigers a brief 6-3 lead by pinning Carlos Chavez at 145 pounds.
David City’s Spencer Allen, Daulton Krause and Noah Styskal all picked up victories by pin. Allen (160) pinned Colten Ratkovec in the second period, same as Styskal at 126 pounds. Krause (106) got his pin with less than a minute remaining in the match.
Brandon Rezac scored a 7-0 decision over Wayne Moore at 195 pounds for the Tigers’ second win of the dual.
Against eighth-ranked Aquinas, David City won the final five matches to pull away.
Telegram Super Senior Melvin Hernandez finally made his season debut against the Monarchs. Hernandez kicked off the dual with a quick pin of Aquinas’ Nathan Junck. Dylan Vodicka followed with another pin to give the Scouts an early 12-0 lead.
Kyle Petree, another Telegram Super Senior, got the Monarchs on the board with a 12-4 win over Allen. That sparked Aquinas to four straight wins. Michael Coufal (170) won by forfeit, Joseph Reimers (182) pinned Justin Escamilla and Sam Wisnieski beat Moore 11-1 to give the Monarchs a 20-12 lead.
Matthew Eilers pinned Anthony Buresh at 225 pounds and Jake Ingwersen beat Owen Schramm 11-5 in the heavyweight match to push David City back ahead 21-20.
Zach Zitek’s first-period pin of Krause in the 106-pound match put Aquinas back in front 26-21 before the Scouts won the last five matches.
Telegram Super Senior Seth Styskal (113) beat Noah Scott 11-1, Zack Barlean (120) won by forfeit and Noah Styskal (126), Jacson Valentine (132) and White (138) all won by pin.
Aquinas beat East Butler 60-18 in the final dual of the triangular.
The Monarchs got eight wins by forfeit and a Zitek pin of Michael Polivka for 54 of those points. Petree beat Ratkovec 7-1 and Lance Dybdal was a 7-2 winner over Cody Heise at 126 pounds.
Spatz, Bohac and Rezac were all winners by pin for East Butler.
