The Lakeview volleyball team did something for only the second time this year on Tuesday -win a match in four sets.
The Vikings defeated Lutheran High 25-22, 25-20, 27-25 and 25-15 to make it back-to-back wins after back-to-back losses.
The Lady Vikes have had a tendency of either sweeping a match, losing in straight sets or losing in five. Tuesday was one of the rare chances for Lakeview to take a lead, endure some adversity, and fight its way through.
"I was very pleased with how we played that fourth set and obviously from the score you can tell it was the largest margin," said head coach K.C. Belitz. "We were just very clean in that fourth set there were not many errors. That really did stand out, and that is important to see that reaction to adversity.
"In that way that's a good experience for us to lose a set, comeback win that fourth have to play a little longer. I think that is good."
Britney Stock led the way at the net blocking four shots on her own while Mattie Purcell dug up 40 Northeast attacks. The team had 137 digs overall.
"Our effort tonight defensively was really outstanding," he said. "I know we have that in us. We've seen it off and on really since summer. Tonight we saw tremendous defensive effort. When we play like that I think we can compete with anyone that's left on our schedule
"(Purcell) really did stand out tonight. "That was a really good match for her. (She) ran down balls in the corner, just didn't make many mistakes. She had a really nice night."
The sub-district assignments have been released and the Vikings now know where they will be headed, and whom they will see.
Lakeview is in sub-district C1-8, which will take place Oct. 29-30 at Columbus High School. The other teams in the district include Boone Central/Newman Grove, Central City, and crosstown rival Scotus Central Catholic.
