St. Francis Flyers

Area volleyball action for the weekend included several conference tournaments. Class D-2 No. 6 Humphrey St. Francis put together the top tournament performance with a run to the championship in the Goldenrod Conference.

The Flyers defeated two ranked opponents along the way.

Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family was in action in the East Husker Conference Tournament, winning twice on Saturday after going 1-1 on Thursday. the Bulldogs took fifth. Twin River was also part of the EHC Tournament, losing twice on Thursday then winning on Saturday and taking 13th.

Cross County went 1-1 at the Crossroads Conference Tournament in York and was eliminated in the quarterfinals. Osceola and High Plains lost openers in the tournament and faced off on Monday night.

D-2 No. 6 Humphrey St. Francis def. D-1 No. 5 Central Valley, 25-14, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19: Allison Weidner used 16 kills to help the Flyers defeat the No. 5 team in Class D-1 and win the Goldenrod Conference Tournament in Cedar Rapids on Saturday. 

Caitlin Jarosz added 11 kills and Kylee Wessel recorded 10 while Lauren Pfeifer blocked five shots.

D-2 No. 6 Humphrey St. Francis def. D-2 No. 5 Nebraska Christian, 26-24, 19-25, 23-25, 25-18, 15-11:  Jarosz had 24 kills and Weidner finished with 17. Kaylee Stricklin had six blocks and Pfeifer served two aces. 

D-1 No. 10 Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family def. BRLD, 18-25, 25-15, 26-24: Allie Schneider totalled 11 kills and Paige Beller had 10. Beller also finished with four blocks. 

D-1 No. 10 Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family def. Howells-Dodge, 25-20, 25-18: Allie Schneider had seven kills and Addison Schneider tallied six. Allie served two aces and both Schneiders had three blocks.

Twin River def. Madison, 25-15, 25-20: "This win gave the younger girls that stepped in for Sydnei Kemper after her ankle injury a little more confidence being able to go out and come home with a win," coach Julie Strain said. "Going into districts it was nice to get a win and get them calmed down and a little more comfortable at the varsity level. They will really have to step up at district as Sydnei will be questionable." 

Cross County def. McCool Junction, 25-12, 25-12: Cortlyn Schaefer led with 10 kills and Chole Sandell added seven more to kelp the Cougars get the win. 

Exeter-Milligan def. Cross County, 18-25, 25-20, 25-19

Hampton def. High Plains, 25-13, 25-22
