On Thursday, Lakeview’s golfers headed to Hastings and braved 44-degree temperatures, along with 35-mph winds in conditions more suited for the British Open than Nebraska high-school golf.
The Vikings finished third in a field of 14 teams with a combined team score of 363 behind winners Adams Central (347) and Kearney Catholic (354).
Elijah Mohlman finished second after posting a score of 83, along with Lakeview teammates Ethan Pablen (fourth, 85) and Landon Bignell (12th, 90).
Also playing for the Vikings were Carter Luedtke and Jared Engel, who carded a 105.
Nolan Sughroue of Adams Central was the winner with a score of 81, with O’Neill’s Cole Gakughenbaugh second at 84.
Lakeview will next play at Boone Central on Tuesday, David City on Wednesday and at the Scotus Invite on Thursday.
Also on Thursday, Scotus Catholic was at the York Invite, where the Shamrocks placed 12th in the 18-team field, with a score of 366 behind winners York, who posted a 311 for the event.
Byrce VunCannon shot an 82 for Scotus, finishing in 14th place, while Tyler Welch of Seward won with a 72.
Rounding out the field for the Shamrocks were Colson Kosch (82), Sam Blaser (98), Drew VunCannon (102) and Cameron Johnston (117).
Scotus will next compete at Schuyler on Tuesday, then return home to host the Scotus Invite on Thursday at 9 a.m.
The Discoverers’ swingers visited Lochland Country Club in Hastings on Thursday and finished seventh with a 364, while Norfolk were the winners with a total of 296 in a field of 10 teams.
On the individual side of the competition, Grand Island’s Cade McCallum shot a scorching round of 66 to win the event by six strokes over Norfolk’s Kellen Rossman (72).
For the Discoverers, low man was Shane Hess in 19th with an 82, while teammates Zach Paden (29th, 89), Mitchell Goc (34th, 95) Joe Massman (36th, 98) and Zach Ciboron (45th, 120) also competed.
Columbus will next host Fremont at Elks Country Club on Monday at 1 p.m.
Central Community College
On Thursday, the Raiders of Central Community College hosted Mt. Marty College and defeated the Lancers with a team score of 317 to the visitors 334.
Colten Remm led Central with a 76, while teammates Nate Grossnicklaus (78), Marshall Dreifurst (79) and Ryan Jurgensen (84) and Kaleb Lusche (84) also competed.
Central was on the road to face Union College in Lincoln on Friday.
