On Thursday, the Lady Discoverers packed up their rackets and headed for Harmon Park in Kearney to compete against the Bearcats in a doubles invitational.
Columbus’ No. 1 duo of Regi Zakrzewski and Sara Kruse posted a 2-3 record for the tourney and finished fifth, including an 8-1 victory against Miah Vakiner and Elise Patchen of Fremont and an 8-2 win over North Platte’s Anam Vaziri and Samantha Uppal.
No. 2 Monykka Hazlett and Mia Janssen also went 2-3 and tied for sixth with victories against Sarah Wilson and Hannah Wilson of Fremont (8-3) and Mya Erixon and Charlotte Simon of Omaha Westside (8-4).
The No. 3 team of Lauren Benck and Aspen Luebbe finished eighth with a 1-4 record, including an 8-2 win over Anniston Manzano and Jenna Hoover of North Platte.
Finally, the No. 4 team had the best result of the event for Columbus, with Emily Miksch and Emma Benck (played matches one, three and five) and Anna Swope and Melanie Jones (matches two and four), going 3-2, good enough for fifth place.
Overall, Columbus finished sixth, with 47 points to winners Lincoln East’s 100.
Next up for the Discoverers is a dual against Fremont at Pawnee Park on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
