Try 3 months for $3

COLUMBUS — Fourth-ranked Wahoo showed why it's one of the best teams in Class C-1 from the get-go Friday at Lakeview High School.

Billy Hancock made four of his five 3-pointers in the first half as Wahoo took a 40-14 halftime lead and went on to win 68-44.

“He’s a great player, very tough to defend,” Lakeview head coach Bryce Roth said of Hancock, who finished with 15 points. “He was knocking down his shots from the start and we just had a hard time slowing him down.”

Hancock contributed to Wahoo’s great shooting night as the Warriors went 8 for 16 on 3-pointers and 26 of 47 (55 percent) from the field.

Brendan Lacey led the Warriors with a game-high 16 points, and Cameron Quick added 11.

“They’re a great shooting team. They have good length, athleticism, and they execute their offense very well,” Roth said. “We gave up some easy baskets early off turnovers, and when they run their offensive sets they're very tough to defend. They can get shots up quick.”

Lakeview’s offense sputtered early, and the Vikings committed 25 turnovers while shooting 16 for 41 from the field for the game.

“When we fell behind by that much early, our guys starting turning up the tempo, which forced a lot of turnovers,” Roth said. “It wasn’t a mystery, it was just a matter of us settling down, and I thought we did a much better job of that in the second half.”

The Vikings improved their play in the second half, when they were outscored just 30-28.

Nick Dolezal and Landon Vogt were a big part of the turnaround, scoring a combined 20 points in the game and 16 in the second half. Vogt knocked down three of Lakeview's seven 3-pointers for his nine points.

Dolezal, a senior, recorded a double-double on senior night with a team-high 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting and 10 rebounds.

“Dolezal was aggressive. He did a great job of attacking the basket and creating some offense for us. He really set the tone for our team in the second half,” Roth said. “I thought Vogt shot the ball good, as well.”

The Vikings will close out the regular season Friday at Central City.
