Stormchasing vehicle ‘Dorothy’ will be on hand at the seminar March 28 in Saline County. The vehicle started as a 2013 Ford E350 van and was heavily modified with 3/4-inch polycarbonate windows and double-walled 14- and 6-gauge steel. Storm chasers Brennan Jontz and Dan Auel started the Dorothy project and have devoted many man-hours to perfecting the vehicle, which is built for safety as the team gets close to tornadoes and films them. It has four seats, and a work zone for a forecaster with a three-screen display.
